Do they have to ride the large naval ships of the Fire Nation to get across, or do they have access via beautiful steampunk-inspired ships...?

1. Welcome, Avatar — You are the Avatar. Enjoy learning all four kinds of bending! And, perhaps, the secret fifth one.
2. Cactus Juice — Thirsty in the Si Wong Desert, or wherever you happen to be? Not a problem, open up a cactus and enjoy the juice, or buy it from the establishment nearby. It's trippy.
3. Fight Fight Fight! — You're challenged to a duel, or an Agni Kai — save your honor! Or disrupt it, whatever sets you on fire.
4. Pro-bending — We hope you know the rules. If you're the Avatar, please stick to one element or you're disqualified. Don't you want to win?
5. Chi-blocked — Suddenly, your bending abilities were taken away! Or were you the one that blocked their skills?
6. There is no war in Ba Sing Se — Get ready to escape Lake Laogai, if you can, or are you there to save someone?
7. Underground Library — The Knowledge Spirit has allowed you to read.
8. I'm ready, Sifu — Are you a bender, a humble fighter, or a beginner? Either way, your training starts now! Impress your masters, have fun with your classmates.
9. Is that a Polar bear-dog? — One animal plus one animal makes a crazy combination! Ready to ride a sky bison, or are you ready to run from a pack of armadillo lions?
10. The Cave of Two Lovers — Were you bothered by a band of hippies, and ended up here? Good luck finding your way out. Maybe the riddle they told you would be useful right now. ("Love is brightest in the dark.")
11. Cart riding in Omashu — Using the delivery system as your personal slide. Don't crash into too many houses, now.
12. Kyoshi Island — Want to ride the large Elephant Koi, or the Unagi? Or are you exploring, or a protector of the Island?

[Connor is a warrior from the Southern Water Tribe in the Hundred Year War. His mother was Water Tribe and killed in a Fire Nation raid when he was young, and his estranged father is Fire Nation. He travels alone through the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation colonies in search of his mother's killer, and works with various resistance groups to fight to liberate Earth Kingdom citizens from the grip of Fire Nation tyranny. All the while, he maintains contact with the South Pole to make sure his village remains safe.

Although he comes from a line of powerful Waterbenders, Connor's skill in bending is still very rudimentary and something he tries to keep hidden. He prefers to rely on his weapons.]

Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad | Assassin's Creed

[ BSC: Altaïr is a relatively young master airbender, and has recently become leader of a faction in the Southern Air Temple who have dismissed pacifism in the face of impending genocide. They've already fought off several raids by the Fire Nation using trickery and traps to force the armies back down the mountains, and in the uneasy lull before the next attack Altaïr is in search in knowledge that might help in the war.

Alternatively, catch him earlier when he was a little shit banished and sent on pilgrimage for killing a non-bender civilian at the start of the conflict, or later, when he's an aging sage travelling to Wan Shi Tong's spirit library after the destruction of the Air Temples. ]

Tsuruhime | Sengoku Basara

[ Get ready, all who might threaten the seas! Tsuruhime is the protector of a shrine on the coast of the Fire Nation rich in spiritual energy. An orphan and a non-bender herself, she's nevertheless highly in tune with the world of the spirits, and can use that connection to scry into the future. Whilst she offers her predictions to all who ask, she is fiercely protective of the autonomy of the enclave.

Except sometimes she gets distracted and wanders off. ]

The Boss | Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

[ASC, some Avatar cycles after Korra: The Boss is from a United Forces military family, and trained to join the military as a teenager, quickly rising through the ranks because of her talent and skill, and founding her own elite bending unit. When she was sixteen, she received news she was the next Avatar. Already having been determined to lead a life devoted to the Republic, the rest of her tenure as Avatar has been spent treading a fine line between her duties to her country, and her duties as the Avatar.

Some see her as a war hero, while others see her as a blind slave to increasingly corrupt politicians in Republic City. If the Boss objects to these opinions of her, she isn't telling; she tries to stay out of the public eye.

Potential scenarios include:
1) Bossatar being dispatched to your character's part of the globe on Avatar duties
2) Taking on your character as a bending student
3) Your character is part of her unit?? war buddy times ensue

[Night falls on the shrine, and one Edward Kenway uses the cover of darkness to scope out the area and make his move. He has only one goal in mind: ransacking the place for Fire Nation treasures and relics, which he can then sell on the Earth Kingdom black market for a king's ransom. Everyone knows the Fire Nation's love of gold and jewels, and that its shrines, temples and palaces are said to be overflowing with the stuff.

Edward's cunning disguise involves some weird get-up he stole a few months back, and decided he liked it better than his sailor's rags -- although he did away with the mantle and the cowl. Impractical and not so flattering, after all. Even with the disguise, he's doing his best to sneak in unnoticed, but he has his blades if it should come to a fight.]

She's a new Airbender from a family of conservative Earthbenders, and could probably rival Opal for a sheltered past. She's fresh to the Northern Air Temple, so catch her wandering around, trying to get the hang of this airbending business, or sneaking away to cuddle baby sky bison.]

[ the raid on connor's village destroyed more than his family and friends' lives - it took with it the would-be reincarnation of the Avatar: a young waterbender named lioriley. or so everyone had assumed.

somehow - through pure dumb luck, no doubt - the avatar had escaped and fled with the help of her mentor, veles, before he too perished in the inferno. alone and only a teenager trained in waterbending skills, lioriley's journey throughout the next x amount of years would be one of the most difficult of her entire life.

she simply called herself 'lio' as she moved in secret through the nations. to them, she was nothing more than a lost waterbender, and only those she had sought to teach her the other three elements would know she was far more than that. her plan was to learn those elements without the world knowing, and though it pained her to hear the whispers about how 'the avatar had abandoned them,' she knew that this would be the best for everyone, as not to escalate the already war-torn nations into outright chaos.

now, 'lio' is nearing her mid-twenties, and though it's not nearly as quick as she had hoped it would be, she has had plenty of time to learn three of the four elements. the only problem she has now is air, but she'll cross that bridge when she gets to it.

she's traveling through a small city in the earth nation, having just left her teacher for the evening. nothing seems too out of the ordinary until she catches sight of a dark-skinned man at one of the market stands. normally, that would be a strange sight on its own, but something else about him makes it even stranger... ]

Is that... [ she whispers to herself, her grip on her bag loosening as it starts to drop to the ground with a loud thud. she's staring at you, connor. hi. ]

Rydia | Final Fantasy IV

[Era 4. Here's a newly-discovered Avatar, a tiny Earth Kingdom girl barely seven years old. She's not lacking in power, but control and refinement aren't her fortes. Teach her bending? [Edward tenses ever so slightly when he realises he has company, but relaxes as soon as he realises she's fooled by his uniform. He knew this would come in handy someday!]

[He has no idea what she's talking about, but he bows anyway, not missing a beat. Appear formal and self-important enough and people will believe anything.]

Are you the guardian of this sacred place?

[Connor's activity with the rebels has meant he's had to keep his head down and maintain a watchful eye when he's in Earth Kingdom territory -- at least, in the areas more tightly controlled by the Fire Nation, where the locals are more likely to turn in resistance members to the soldiers than to offer support. So his paranoia makes him look around when he hears that thud. And he sees--

Is that young woman staring at him Water Tribe? She looks familiar, almost like... But it couldn't be possible. Could it?]

[ there's no mistaking the dark skinned, blue-eyed look of a water tribe woman, even if she has gone to great lengths to hide everything else that would out her as such. she's adorned in earth kingdom fashion currently; her dark hair pulled back into a sloppy ponytail. for those that might know her from her past, though, there's no way it conceals her identity at all.

she blinks owlishly, still blatantly staring even when he turns toward her. it has to be him - there's no way it isn't. ]

Connor...? [ it's a barely audible whisper as she steps closer, disregarding her belongings as she leaves them - literally - in the dust behind her. ] Is that you?

Lioriley? But how are you-- Where did you--?

[He can barely articulate his shock. Lioriley. Alive. She had been one of his closest and dearest friends as a boy, and in all these years, it was the memory of the Avatar that had spurred him on as much as the memory of his mother, and all the others of their people who had fallen, or who had been taken away.

Actions speak louder than words: he closes the distance between them, and pulls her into a rib-cracking hug.]

[ he knows her name - her full name. there's no doubt in her mind now that this is the boy she knew as a child, the one that she never thought she would see again in her life. ]

Connor--eugh! [ that is the sound of a tiny girl being bear-hugged by a huge dude. ] Y-You have grown up, Connor!

Sorry-- [Abashed, and realising he's probably crushing her a little, he lets go. (Had she always been that small? He doesn't remember.)] It has been so long. I had always wondered if you escaped, but I had never imagined...

[He trails off helplessly, still unable to convey the strange mix of shock, happiness and grief all fighting for dominance. Yes, he'd entertained the notion she could have survived, but with no news of the Avatar elsewhere in the world, his hopes had dimmed with every passing year. Eventually, he had to dismiss the idea as a childish fantasy, and focused on what he could do to help the world instead.

Now, though... She's very much real, and very much alive.]

You did not know. No one did. [ that was the point. ] But I am here, and you are here, and we have so much to catch up on! Come, come! [ the cheerfulness is back now! she grabs a hold of one of his hands, tugging him along as she goes to retrieve the bag she just dropped. ]
