Harry Potter AU meme: redux

The Wizarding Meme

Now we've all seen this before, a Hogwarts AU meme!

RULES:
- Post with your character, the fandom, their house and if you want to, their year (or what their house was when they were a student, etc etc.)
- Character can be a Hogwarts Student, a visiting student for the Triwizard Tournament, or an adult of any sort!
- Roll between 1-14 at RNG, or don't!
- Reply to others.
- Profit.

1 ⚝ CLASS: You may pick the class, but really the class picks you. Passing notes? Eying up the teacher? In class whispering? Spells going wrong? Any thing goes!

2 ⚝ LIBRARY: SSSSHHHH! It's study time, but some just don't see it that way.

3 ⚝ HOGSMEADE: With all that hard work, it's time for a well deserved break. Go for a walk, drop by the Three Broomsticks, get some shopping done, or maybe take a peek into the Shrieking Shack, so long as something doesn't grab you.

4 ⚝ QUIDDITCH: For some people, the Quidditch pit is the place to be. Whether you're practicing, watching a game or just doing homework in the stands, this might just be the place for you.

5 ⚝ FORBIDDEN FOREST: WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE? IT'S FORBIDDEN. Be careful the spiders don't get you.

6 ⚝ DIAGON ALLEY: Whether near or far, this is where your fellow wizards and witches will gather. Making a day of it or just dropping in to get some chores done? Take a load off, maybe keep an eye out for your friends as they come out of Gringotts or sneak off into Knockturn Alley.

7 ⚝ MEAL TIME: Ah, the Great Hall. A wonderful place to work or play, but then again there's always the Kitchens if you know where to find them.

8 ⚝ YULE BALL: Time to put your best foot forward. That is, until the Weird Sister's start to play. Then, all bets are off. Maybe somebody even spiked the punch when Professor McGonagall wasn't looking.

9 ⚝ SNEAKING AROUND: The Restricted Section? Going to get a midnight snack from the kitchens? Or someplace else? ...Are you sure you should really be in here?

10 ⚝ WANDERING THE GROUNDS: Much like sneaking around, but without the threat of...

11 ⚝ DETENTION: Well, that's what you get for...whatever you did. This isn't going to be fun, you can be sure of that.

12 ⚝ HOGWARTS EXPRESS: Back to wizards and witches, and magical beasts, to goblins and ghosts and to magical feasts! All aboard the Hogwarts Express, want anything from the trolly dear?

13 ⚝ COMMON ROOM: Perhaps you and somebody in your house are just chilling... or maybe- have you been crafty enough to sneak somebody from another house in?

14 ⚝ ACCIO OPTION: Pick your own or make something else up!
colortheportrait: (look; one day all this will be yours)

[ Professor Davenport's office is a rather bizarre affair; the door next to a large painting of a village complete with residents who frequently call out to students or climb the hill painted in the foreground to get a better look at them. By this point they're all familiar with Connor, to the point that several figures from other nearby paintings hang out in the larger frame on Saturdays to wave to him and offer bizarre and period-inaccurate advice on everything from his clothing to how to perform a proper pig-herding charm.

In any case, he answers after the second knock.

I'll give you a moment to imagine Achilles in wizard robes. His pointy hat still has the little beak on the rim. His necklace hums in the presence of deceit so he had it disenchanted the moment he was hired as a teacher.

Okay.

Let's continue. ]

Is it that time again? Come in.

Hello, Professor Davenport. [Connor has the slightly abashed look of feeling he's a nuisance when Achilles opens the door, clutching his piece of parchment. Nonetheless he steps inside, offering a brief smile to the friendly people in the painting, before he takes a seat opposite Achilles' desk.

Hopefully the professor would be in a good mood today, considering he needed to ask him a favour. It was always hard to gauge.]

Um... I was told to give you this. [He holds out the permission slip for him to look at.]

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-14 05:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[ As good a mood as he's going to get without a powerful Cheering Charm, anyway. He sits back at his desk and takes the parchment, which he can identify without even reading it considering the rest of his third years have been ambushing him with them all week. ]

Of course. [ Their ability to forge signatures is absolutely terrible, incidentally. He wonders if Connor has made an attempt, or if he managed to get an owl to track down his mother long enough to get a signature.

It's unsigned, of course, and he sighs. ]
You understand I need the permission of a parent or guardian before I approve this?

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-14 05:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, but I don't know where Mother is, right now. It could take weeks before I hear from her...

[Her work was often so sensitive her communications were few and far between. She wanted nothing but the best for her son, but she was also devoted to her work. And Haytham... Well. Connor would be surprised if his father even knew what year group he was in, and there was no way Connor would give him the satisfaction of thinking he had any parental authority. He didn't need his permission to do anything.

So. Professor Davenport was his next best bet.]

I do not understand why I need this. I already made it to England and Scotland on my own, what is wrong with going to Hogsmeade?
colortheportrait: (really; how do you even dress yourself)

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-14 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ministry regulations require it. [ He doesn't particularly want to explain general liability to a thirteen-year-old. He's perfectly aware that he's being unfair just shutting the boy down without a real explanation, and modulates himself. ]

You may be trusted to travel as you like, but some of your classmates cannot. [ actually he doesn't really trust Connor to make it through Hogsmeade unscathed, but that's because the town has become a series of flashy shops designed to appeal to teenagers.

Upon reflection, the experience would do him some good. He takes his quill and sets it to paper. ]

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-15 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Connor looks disheartened as soon as Ministry regulations are mentioned. It isn't his fault his mother is too busy to sign trivial pieces of paper and his father is... well, his father. When Achilles starts writing, though, he lights up, sitting up straighter in his seat to get a better look.]

You're letting me go?
colortheportrait: (proud; let's not bloat that head)

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-15 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You will ask your mother by owl, of course. [ And if she refuses then there is no spell in Britain that will get Connor off school grounds. But there. He spells the ink dry and Summons the small chest he's been keeping the forms in. ]

Far be it from me to rob you of the chance to waste your sickles on Jelly Slugs and Belching Powder.

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-15 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
But the first trip is this weekend! I'll never get a reply by then.

[He deflates again. Honestly, he's not even sure where she is, which means sending an owl to Oiá:ner, who would hopefully be able to get into contact with her.

Looks like this weekend will be spent studying, while all the other third years get to go shopping and have fun...]
colortheportrait: (ha!; not in that you're not)

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-15 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Really? The speed at which students can descend into teenage angst is truly impressive. He holds up the slip, so Connor can see the signature and the small Hogwarts crest that denotes approval. ]

There is no need for self-pity. As your guardian, my permission is good enough for our esteemed Ministry until then.

[ besides, the Headmaster clearly didn't send out the slip on time, i.e. over the summer. ]
rotiskenhrakete: (pic#6129790)

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-15 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
...Oh. [Teenage angst crisis over, and Achilles, as usual, succeeds in making Connor feel foolish. He looks down, fidgets, and clears his throat, before looking back up.] Um-- T-thank you.

Was there anything else you needed to discuss with me, Professor?
colortheportrait: (relax; protag in three- two-)

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-18 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Given that Connor is a teenage boy and therefore obligated to make foolish decisions on a daily basis, Achilles elects not to comment on the fidgeting. Speaking of daily foolishness, however. ]

There is nothing especially pressing, so why don't you tell me of your latest exploits? I hear you are doing especially well in Care of Magical Creatures. [ Or so Prudence's tale of a third year herding porlocks would have the staffroom believe. ]
rotiskenhrakete: (pic#6030945)

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-18 11:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. [He brightens up at that.] I enjoy it a great deal. A few weeks ago we studied puffskeins... Most of the students did not seem to like them, but I do not see why not.

[They're fluffy, gentle, and they make happy noises when you pet them. What's not to love? The other third years were expecting to jump straight to fire-breathing lizards straight from the get-go, though, so maybe they were a little underwhelmed.]
colortheportrait: (pic#7163818)

[personal profile] colortheportrait 2013-12-19 01:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'll remember that the next time they get into the parlour. [ The cabinet was full of them and given that there's a Stasis Charm on the thing it all went wrong rather quickly.

But he digresses. ]

And how are you finding Divination?
rotiskenhrakete: (pic#6156818)

[personal profile] rotiskenhrakete 2013-12-19 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[His enthusiasm abates quickly, at that.]

...Difficult. [As much as he hates to admit he finds anything difficult.] The traditions of the Mohawk in using visions, and for what purpose, is very different the traditions of divination here... Our way is more spiritual than reliant on trying to interpret objects.

[Which is a polite way of saying that he thinks the whole subject is probably bullshit. Maybe he should write to his grandmother for advice, before his grades inevitably tank...]
