[Aqua had watched over Ven during his gradual recovery. And while it had been a slow process, she and Terra hadn't given up hope that he would get better. He had, she could see it every day: that empty-eyed shell of a boy becoming a little more responsive the more time he spent with others. And if being with others was what it took, she and Terra were willing to offer all the friendship and support he would need.

Today, Aqua had been intending to invite Ven to lunch, and it doesn't take her long to find him. For a moment, though, she just hangs back, and a soft smile curves at her lips in the way he looks at everything. He really is improving.

She strolls to catch up with him at her own pace, then announces her presence by speaking up,]

Have you seen how the leaves have begun to change colour? This is one of my favourite times of the year.

[It doesn't matter if he hasn't noticed or isn't interested. She likes to talk to him for talking's sake, if nothing else.]

[Ven slows to a stop and turns to look at her, a neutral kind of recognition in his expression. After a second he looks up at the nearest tree, observing before nodding once.

Normally he would leave it at that, but for some reason or another, he feels compelled to add a verbal response.]

The season changed.

[He doesn't remember ever learning that; he simply knows it, like he knows a lot of common sense things. He can't recall ever not knowing them, either, so it doesn't stick out to him as odd. He knows what he knows and that's all there is to it.]

It'll get cold next.

[stormfell]

That's right.

[She smiles, encouraging.]

The leaves will all fall soon, then it'll be winter. If we're lucky, we might even get snow this year. [She continues walking, trusting he'll follow, pausing only to scoop up a golden-reddish leaf. She hands it to him, to look at it and touch it.] What's your favourite season, Ven?

[He takes it and looks at it -- studies it, really, as he twirls it by the stem a couple times. Despite how concentrated he looks, he's focusing equally on her question and turning it over, too.]

...Summer. [He doesn't know if she'll ask why, but he'll explain, anyway.] I remember a lot of it. And... [He frowns slightly.] ...I haven't seen snow.

[He doesn't think so, anyway. If he has, he doesn't remember.]

[stormfell]

Really? [She glances to him, curious, but not wanting to press him.] If my ice magic was good enough, I could show you snow right here and now.

[As it is, she's still perfecting the very basics of Blizzard and all the other elements. She's read about such advanced magic, but it's beyond her ability at this stage. A thought comes to her, though, and she laughs a little.]

I guess it's just another reason to keep studying hard, right?

[Another slow, single nod as he lets the leaf drop, looking up at the trees again for another considerate pause.]

Aqua. [It's not really said as an address as much as it is something like a recitation -- like he's still getting used to the name, even if he's known it and its connotation for months now.] Why do you study?

[He knows why in a sense -- the same basic reason the three of them do. To master the Keyblade, to be better and stronger fighters. Ven doesn't elaborate his question, but his tone suggests he's asking about her, specifically. Her reasoning.]

[It's a good question, and one she's often asked herself. She takes a moment to think about how to phrase her answer.]

The Keyblade chose me, so it's my duty to become the best Keybearer I can. If I train hard enough, maybe one day I can become a master like Master Eraqus. [She pauses, gazing up to the sky, where -- hidden by the brightness of daylight -- countless stars would be looking down on them.] But, title or no title, I study to have the skills to help and protect as many people as I can. Not just the other worlds -- but my friends, too.

[She looks back down at Ven, and smiles.]

Those are the most important reasons to me.

[He seems to think over that, and seriously, before looking at her again a moment later.]
